THE PARLIAMENTARY REVIEW Highlighting best practice
Some years ago, when my practice was first established, I noticed that we were performing a considerable number of services compared with our competitors. I was concerned, for a time, that we were doing something odd. However, it transpired that our level of efficiency and quality was simply not met in other practices in the area. I also ensure that the services I am offering are carried out to the best of my ability, and that of my staff. At times I see those who cannot afford the treatment, as we understand that teeth health can impact quality of life for everyone. As a private practice, we are impacted by the Brexit referendum far more than NHS ones. We find that the financing of practices such as my own is heavily dependent upon the cashflow of our clients, and that more and more clients are requesting a delay in their payments or for the option to spread the payment. This has an impact on our day-to-day running, as well as our core finance, which depends upon timely payments. A vast majority of the products we use at our practice come from within the European Union, and we estimate that our departure from the EU would result in a cost increase on Brexit uncertainty harms business

Crowning glory We are not limited to general work but are also experienced in crowning work and more specialist services. We are often called upon to perform apicoectomies, and to provide advice for younger practices. We believe that the discussion of cost in dentistry is fundamental to the way in which we understand the profession. Indeed, when dentists in our area were researched by an undercover investigator, we were recognised as a dentistry that provided the best treatment, with the friendliest staff; while it was noted that our fees were higher than NHS fees, these were in reference to items which were only available privately such as implants, white restoration, cosmetic whitening and adult orthodontics.

In order to build up my patient list, I offered all services possible, and brought in an orthodontic dentist early on
